With great sadness we announce the passing of Hugo J. Acosta on September 13th, 2018. Hugo is survived by his loving wife of 51 years Teresa Acosta, daughter Sandra, son Carlos (Malena), grandsons Lucas and Marcus and niece Paty Daza (Colombia).

Hugo was born in La Plata, Colombia where he learned his trade of goldsmithing. In 1970 he immigrated to Thompson, Manitoba with his young family and began working at Inco Mining Company. He left Manitoba in 1976 and moved to Nanaimo to continue his career in goldsmithing. After arriving in Nanaimo, he started his own goldsmithing business and continued his career until his forced retired in 1996 due to macular degeneration. Hugo enjoyed expressing his creativity through working with precious metals, drawing, sculpting and work working.

The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the staff of Nanaimo Home Support for their care of Hugo over the past six months. In addition, we would like to thank the team at Transitions in NRGH for going above and beyond by arranging for Hugo to be close to Teresa in his final hours.
