Hugh Paul Therres

Born August 20, 1928 in Prince George, B.C. Passed away at home in Nanaimo, April 29, 2010. Hugh was 81.

It is with heartfelt sadness that we say goodbye to our loving husband, father, grandfather and great friend to so many.

Hugh was an avid gardener - always trying new techniques to better his crop yield, and loved to share his garden harvests. He was also an enthusiastic sports fisherman with many a good tale, and happily shared his catch with his friends and neighbours. Hugh loved bowling and bowled for 32 years in Ladsymith for the Overwaitea/H & J Welding teams. He loved playing card games, croquet and botchi. The games won’t be the same without him.

He was a successful businessman, and co-founded H & J Welding on Northfield Rd., where he worked for 18 years.

Hugh had a huge heart, which sadly failed him in his final months. He was devoted to his family and is survived by his loving wife Norma, his daughters Lori, Janet and Fairn, sons-in-law Wayne Hiebert and Frank Champion, and grandsons, Tanner and Stephen Champion. His is also survived buy his brother John Therres (Effie), sisters Mary White (Clifford) and Helen Jones, sister-in-law Lois McLean (Doug), brother-in-law Milton Sharpe (Brenda), and many nieces and nephews. His devoted friends of many years were like family to him.

The family wish to thank Dr. D.L. Bradley for his many years of considerate care, the wonderful teams of paramedics that attended him on recent occasions, and also the wonderful caring hospital staff.

Flowers are gratefully declined. Donations, if desired, can be made in Hugh’s name to the charity of your choice. In honour of Hugh’s wishes, there will be no formal service.
