It is with broken hearts we share the passing of our beloved partner, stepson, father, grandfather, uncle, nephew, cousin, and FRIEND (Howdog), of Ladysmith, BC. He slipped away peacefully with his lifelong friend and partner of 21 years, Sherri Williams, sharing his pillow and holding his hand as the Angels carried him home.
He was loved by all who crossed paths with him and was drawn to his beautiful smile and warm, sensitive, caring, compassionate, gentle soul with a great sense of humour and heart that would listen to you anytime. His presence on this Earth has left a firm imprint on many lives that will be missed.
He was born in Ladysmith, BC and loved this area of the Island.
He was predeceased by his mother Joyce, nee Johnston (1987) and father Jack Davis (2015). Survived by Sherri, son Matthew (Lisa) gc Dylan and Lena Davis, daughter Deneige Davis, Amber Lynch gc Jada McEwan, Jamie (Crystal) gc Tristin, Marcus and Ashton Williams, stepmom Isabelle Butler, and father-in-law Jim Williams. Numerous wayward teenagers that considered him an exemplary father role-model that he opened his home and heart to and many friends and relatives. Also, his dear companion, Buddy the cat.
Howie worked at Grove Service Station then began a career that spanned three decades for him in the Recycling Scrapyard Metal Business, Can Am in Ladysmith. He got to travel around BC, Washington, Oregon, and California hauling scrap.
We had a lot of fun working next door to Can Am at the Cassidy Drive-in and Swap Meet. He worked in the office at Frank Laird's Automotive for a spell. His final position for 10 years was Housekeeping at Kiwanis Village in Nanaimo, where he was loved and missed by the residents and co-workers when he left in 2016 when he was diagnosed with Early Onset Alzheimer's Disease. He loved helping anyone whenever he could.
He loved his days of slow-pitch softball, 5-pin and 10-pin bowling, and the fun with the Nascar Group that met once a week. He was always ready to help with 10-pin bowling tips as he was a great teacher.
Thank you, Howie, for the legacy of love and sharing and silver linings that your bright smile has left for all of us. Your passion and open heart have been inspirational as we travelled this journey through life that ended too soon. Thank you to Dr Swamy and the Homecare workers for their patience as they assisted us on this challenging journey over the past three years.
Donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of B.C. if you wish. Due to Covid-19 there are no plans. I am so glad we had a lovely 60th Birthday Party Celebration of Howie's Life in 2016 that he enjoyed. We will love and miss you forever.
