Herbert Winthrop Warbuton, ph.D.

Herb died suddenly at home on Monday, December 22, 2008 in Nanaimo, BC. He was born in Brooklyn, New York and was predeceased by his parents, Winthrop and Bernice Warburton, and brother Gerald Warburton. Herb is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Virginia (Ginny), daughter Karen (Ron) Gartel, Edmonton, Alberta, stepchildren Nicholas (Patty) Ejret, Stillwater, Minnesota, and Kristine (Christopher) Whitman, Edmonton, Alberta, seven grandchildren, sister Peggy (Steve) Muller, Brea, California, two sons by a previous marriage, Peter and Richard, and many loving nieces and nephews. He will be missed terribly by his family, many friends, and business associates he developed over the years. Herb spent his early years getting his education and working for various businesses in the United States and Panama. Upon immigrating to Canada with his family, he taught a visiting appointment at Simon Fraser University for one year before settling in Kelowna teaching at Okanagan College in the Business Department for 17 years. Herb and Ginny formed their own consulting business, Prism Consultants, Ltd. and spent 16 years developing courses and training supervisors and business managers how to become more effective people managers across Canada before retiring in 2002.

A Memorial Service will be held at Brechin United Church, 1998 Estevan Road, Nanaimo, on Friday, January 2, 2009 at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, a donation in his would be greatly appreciated to Brechin United Church, Loaves and Fishes Food Bank of the Nanaimo SPCA.
