May 7, 2005

NIELSEN, HENRY was born on March 24, 1923 in Bjerringbro, Denmark. He died peacefully at home on May 7, 2005. He will be dearly missed by his wife Anna of nearly 55 years, aunt, Olga Pedersen and her family, children, Sophy, Bert (Sherry), Judy (Greg), Rod (Sheryl), grandchildren, Lauren (Art), Stephen, Jason, Kelly, Daniel, Erik, Brig, great grandchildren, Samuel, Jacob, Justin, Courtney and many relatives in Denmark. Henry and Anna were married in the Faroe Islands in 1950 and two months later immigrated to Canada. They soon settled near Golden, B.C. where he worked at the Kicking Horse Sawmill. In 1969, the family moved to Nanaimo where Henry worked for the Highways Dept. two years and then at the Dorman Sawmill on the Assembly Wharf and the Mayo Sawmill (Western Forest Products, Nanaimo) until retiring in 1988. Henry enjoyed his retirement puttering in his shop, gardening, travelling and spending lots of time with his family. In his last few years he had some health problems and required kidney dialysis. A special thank you to the Nanaimo Dialysis Clinic nurses who went above and beyond in caring for Henry. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, May 12th at Hope Lutheran Church, 2174 Departure Bay Road. In lieu of flowers a donation may be made to the Kidney Foundation or a charity of your choice. "Rest in Peace."
