HEATON, Henry Edward

October 1, 1927 - January 21, 2009

It is with profound sadness that we announce the death of our dearly loved and respected husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

Harry was born, educated, employed and married in England, where he leaves behind a brother and sister-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins.

He spent all his working life in the Health Care field, starting as an x-ray technician. In 1954 he and his wife Renee emigrated to Canada where Harry furthered his education and moved into Hospital Administration. He spent many years as Vice President of the Health Science Centre in Winnipeg.

After retiring he and his wife moved to Nanaimo and discovered the joys of cruising, enjoying many wonderful holidays over the years.

Harry was a kind, gentle and honourable man with deep convictions and strong family values. He was an avid reader with a great thirst for knowledge, saying “If I don’t learn something new everyday, the day is wasted”. He also loved music, ballroom dancing, bike riding and jogging.

Special thanks to Dr. Betty Feick, Nanaimo Home Support, and the Palliative Care Unit staff for their wonderful care and compassion.

We say goodbye with deep sadness but also with gratitude for all the love you have given us and the wisdom and values you passed on to us.

We will love you forever and forget you never.

Cremation has taken place. No service by request. In lieu of flowers, donations to BC Cancer Agency or the Palliative Care Unit at NRGH would be gratefully accepted.
