Hannah Green

February 26, 1914 - May 22, 2009

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Hannah. She was born in East Wellington on February 26, 1914, the eldest child of Jack and Elizabeth Bowness. She married her husband Harold in 1940 and raised two sons. Hannah lived a full and happy 95 years.

Mum was a very hardworking and wonderful person. She was a talented self-taught artist who painted with oils. She was a beautiful knitter, in her 90’s knit all her great grandchildren baby sweaters. Mum was the best pie maker. Sunday supper the first words from her little grandson were “Pie Grandma, pie.” Mum was also an avid reader and loved history. Mum was a devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother, friend. She will be remembered and dearly missed. She will live in our hearts forever.

A special thanks to the staff at Malaspina Gardens for the excellent care in Mum’s last 6 months of life.

Predeceased by her husband Harold in 1992, sister Melva Lightfoot in 2008. She is survived by sons Irving of Powell River, Ken (Sheila) of Nanaimo, grandchildren Chad (Juliana) of Nanaimo, Kim (Bob) Campiou of Victoria, great grandchildren Aidan, Hannah, Myra, Chloe, brother Irving Bowness (Marguerite) of Qualicum, sisters Hazel Shorter of Qualicum, Betty Belinski of Nanaimo, and many nieces and nephews.

Private family graveside will be held at a later date.
