Gwendolyn “Shirley”

Rafter

Oct. 21, 1930 - Apr. 17, 2016

Shirley passed away peacefully after a very short illness. She was a long time resident of Nanaimo, living the last 2 years in Nanaimo Seniors Village where she enjoyed the entertainment and her many bridge games with Kay, Barb & Rose. Before that she had lived many years in a beautiful waterfront condo close to downtown.

Shirley was predeceased by her loving husband Doug in 2000, sister Beverly in 2011, & companion & wonderful travelling/dining/life partner - Harry Wipper in 2012.

Family was very important to Shirley & dinners at her place were legendary. She is survived by daughter - Ingrid Anderson (Brent Armstrong), son - Bill (Marilyn); Grandchildren - Jordan, Drew, Brendon, Nickola, Shayla, Ashley & Bradley; & 10 great grandchildren.

In her younger years Shirley was quite a fashionesta, hence she really enjoyed her part-time work in Eaton’s Ladies department. She also was a very active member of the Nanaimo Curling Club. Later she enjoyed her weekly bridge club & morning coffee with Sister Beverly.

Heartfelt thanks to the wonderful staff at NRGH, especially the nurses in the palliative care unit. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Nanaimo Yacht Club on Sat., May 28th at 1:30.

We love you Mom, rest in peace.
