It is with profound sadness Gord’s family announces his sudden passing at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital with his wife and sister by his side.

He will be sadly missed by his wife, Dianne; sister, Bernice (Lionel); brothers, Larry (Diane), Glenn (Brenda), and Don (Darlene); as well as the Painchaud family on Dianne’s side. He was predeceased by his mother and father.

Gord was born in Esterhazy, Saskatchewan on June 17, 1952 to Yarmila and William Bartok. Eventually, he moved from Esterhazy to Edmonton, Alberta to work as a contract welder/fabricator in Nisku, Alberta, building oil rigs used in Alberta and internationally. Gord also worked on the first off-shore rig ever built in Nisku. In 1986, he met his wife, Dianne, and they lived in Edmonton until they retired to Qualicum Beach, BC in July of 2010.

Gord was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed snowmobiling in the mountains. When he retired and moved to Qualicum Beach, BC on Vancouver Island, he continued to enjoy the beautiful mountain scenery on his ATV. Gord also enjoyed badminton and was a camping enthusiast.

Always a kind and gentle man, Gord was greatly loved and respected, and he will be sadly missed by all who knew him, especially his wife and family.

Funeral service was held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, October 18, 2016 at Sands Funeral Chapel, 1 Newcastle Avenue, Nanaimo, BC. Interment took place at Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens in Cedar, BC.
