April 13, 1927 - August 18, 2018
It is with great sadness that we mourn the passing of Gordon (Don) Bennett Walls on August 18, 2018 in Nanaimo, BC. Don was born and raised in Nanaimo, along with his brother Stanley. After attending the Faculty of Engineering at UBC, and acquiring his degree in Chemical Engineering, Don worked as a Chemical Engineer with Harmac Pulp Mill in Nanaimo.

Don was a creative thinker and inventor with a scientific approach to everything mechanical. He hand built his treasured 505 Sailboat, and proudly raced it for many summers in Maple Bay.

Don also piloted a small plane out of Nanaimo Airport in his younger years. He was also an accomplished artist, a painter of water colours, and a dedicated musician. Don enjoyed playing the Baritone Horn with the Nanaimo Concert Band for 35 years.

After hiking together with the Nanaimo Thursday Hikers for several years, in 1994, Don married his life partner, Mollie Walls. Together Don and Mollie lived an adventurous and social life, which included numerous wilderness paddling, cycling and hiking adventures across British Columbia. Don and Mollie were awarded Lifetime Members of the Nanaimo Paddlers.

Don is survived by his wife Mollie Walls (nee Johnson).

A Celebration of Life will be held at the German Cultural Centre (71 Caledonia Avenue, Nanaimo) on Saturday, October 13, 2018 beginning at 1:30 pm. Join Mollie and family in remembering and celebrating the life of Don Walls.
