Glenn Forbes

Mar. 22, 1926 – Dec. 12, 2016

It is with hearts full of gratitude for a life well lived that we announce the passing of our husband and father Glenn Forbes. A sportsman, businessman, and lifelong friend who always put his family first – including 68 happy years of marriage to his bride Marjorie (Roff) Forbes. Born in Marqus, Saskatchewan in 1926 dad grew up in Moose Jaw. He enlisted in the Navy in 1944 and, upon his return from overseas, met and married our mother Marjorie. Dad began working at CPR and our family soon grew: Gerry (deceased); Nancy Johnston (Doug); Randy (Arlene); Brian (Debbie); Wendy MacLachlan (Rick).

In 1954 dad began a career in the jewelry business that brought the family to Nanaimo in 1967 when he accepted the role of manager of People’s Jewelers at Harbour Park Mall. In 1976 mom and dad bought Grassick’s Jewelers on Commercial Street and delivered lasting memories until they retired in 1987.Dad also served the Kiwanis Club, the Rotary Club, and Probus. During his lifetime, he excelled at hockey, curling, goose hunting, golfing, and fishing. If you were his friend, you were his friend for life.

Throughout his successes, dad was most proud of his family. His annual “breakfast with Grandpa” was a hit with his 8 grand-kids; each of whom hold special memories of time spent with Grandpa. His love only grew larger with the arrival of each of his 7 great-grandchildren. Family is first. Our family thanks Dufferin Place staff for the kindness they showed our father since he arrived in September. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation in dad’s honour to a charity of your choice. A celebration of life will be held on January 15th, 2017 from 1 – 4 pm in the Banquet Room at the Nanaimo Golf Club.
