Giovanni Sciarpelletti passed away in Nanaimo on November 17, 2021 after a seven-year battle with Alzheimer's; he was 89 years old. Born in Rome, Italy on November 6, 1932, he married beloved wife Rosa on September 9, 1956 and they started their family in Kenya and then Tanzania where they raised their five children. Giovanni was a successful contractor, and with Rosa, attended the Italian club in Dar-Es-Salaam and made many friends. In 1972 he moved the family back to Rome, Italy and then immigrated to Canada in 1974 settling first in Vancouver and retiring to Nanaimo in 1993. In Nanaimo both Giovanni and Rosa were active members of the Felice Cavallotti Lodge.
Giovanni is predeceased by his wife Rosa (2009). He is remembered by his daughter Anna Reilly, and her children Elizabeth, Kris, and Francesca, of Orangeville, Ontario; his son Angelo and wife Marie of Edmonton and their children Giovanni and Michael, son Paolo and wife Maria, of Burnaby; his son Frank and wife Marietta, of Nanaimo, and their children Laura, Paul, Andrew, Deborah and Jessica and son Carlo, of Burnaby. Giovanni leaves behind ten grandchildren and six great grand children and certainly many more to come soon; a great legacy left behind. A Celebration of life will be planned at a later date at the Cavallotti Lodge in Nanaimo.
