Born in London, Ontario on November 10, 1914, Ethel settled in Departure Bay in 1943 with two young children and waited for husband Charles Morley to return from the war. In the early 1960s Ethel met and married Clarence Lackie (deceased June, 2001) and life began anew when they made their home on the waterfront at Lantzville. Ethel and Clarence will be fondly remembered by many as longtime owner/operators of the Glengarry Cafe in the Harewood Plaza until their retirement in 1976. Over the years Ethel has been very active in many Nanaimo organizations including the Nanaimo Curling Club, the Bowen Park Seniors and the Twilight Campers and Good Sam RV clubs.On January 4, 2004 Ethel passed away peacefully at the Nanaimo Regional General Hospital at the age of 89 years. She will be sadly missed by her son Jim Morley (Melanie), daughter Carolyn Besta (Barry), grandchildren Nicole Tilley (Tony), Chris Morley, Alasdair Campbell, Iain Campbell (Yvonne) and Duncan Campbell as well as great grandchildren Coby, Kayla, Meaghan and Alannah. The family wishes to thank Dr. David Westwood and the staff at the Nanaimo Regional General Hospital for their care and support. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, January 16, 2004 at The Venue (Master’s Touch Catering), 7143 Caillet Road, Lantzville. Donations to the Heart and Stroke Association or charity of your choice would be appreciated in lieu of flowers.
