In loving memory ~
Leaving us with deep sorrow, Gerry has passed away. Survived by his former wife of 35 years, Joyce Macmillan, and 5 children Deborah, Darrick, Dana, Delisa, Camille and Donovan, the grandson he raised.
Predeceased by his eldest son Daryl and youngest son Darien. His sister Charlotte, predeceased by 1 brother Roger and 7 sisters: Noeila, Rene, Leona, Yvette, Jeanette, Lorraine and Roberta. Also survived by 19 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren.
Gerry grew up working in his father's hardware shop in the plumbing field. At 10 years he would make lead flashing for roofs and was soon threading pipe by hand. He worked at Fairmont Plumbing at 11th & Main in Vancouver for 28 years, it was all manual work.
Married at 20 years, he moved to the construction of houses, & high rises. He did the mechanical of the original high rise in Nanaimo as well as Port Alberni, Discovery Inn in Campbell River, the 6th floor of Nanaimo Regional Hospital and the list goes on including high-rises in Winnipeg.
He tried his hand at logging in South Bentick, B.C., and Bute Inlet as well as Winch man in Tahsis, B.C. and Mill Wright in Quesnel, B.C. He was happy to retire at 68 years and work in his 1/3 of an acre garden and build a log tea house which he loved. He could feed the fish in his pond and just putter in Departure Bay. Lastly, he enjoyed riding his big red scooter to shop or visit. Not a "Harley," but next best.
Service December 17th, 2022, at 11:30 a.m. at the Sands Funeral Chapel, burial to follow at Cedar Memorial, Cedar, B.C.
