Gerry's life adventure started on October 5, 1940 in London, England during the Blitz. His journey ended peacefully on June 12, 2019, at the Palliative Care Unit at NRGH, after a valiant struggle with multiple myeloma. His loving wife Vivian was by his side, as she always was.
Gerry is survived by his sister Sylvia and many nieces, nephews and cousins in England.
At the tender age of 17, Gerry joined the Merchant Navy and sailed the world which was the beginning of his wanderlust.
In 1966 he moved to Canada, living in Toronto, Montreal and London Ont., before being headhunted for a job in Edmonton with Precision Scale, where he found his true calling in weights and measures. Over the next 20 years he worked his way up to General Manager, and retired in 2004.
Gerry and Vivian then moved to Nanaimo, where they were able to look out over the ocean every day.
They continued their world travels, visiting most of the 'wonders of the world'.
Gerry enjoyed a passionate love of theatre, he volunteered with the Walterdale Theatre in Edmonton, where he met the love of his life. He was quite a character, as we know, and acted in several plays.
He volunteered with many other organizations, including the Port Theater, Elder College and Literacy Central in Nanaimo.
And, of course, there was golf. Gerry became an avid golfer when he retired. He enjoyed many rounds and made many good friends.
We would like to thank our kind friends who have always been very supportive and helpful.

Celebration of Life will be held at 1 pm on Wednesday, June 19 at Sands Funeral Chapel, 1 Newcastle Ave. Donations in Gerry's name may be made to Literacy Central VI or Myeloma Canada.
