Ward, Gerald (Gerry) Anthony
Born September 25, 1943. Died October 17, 2008.
Although he was only around for 65 yrs Gerry had quite an impact on those who knew him, whether he sold you an appliance in the 35 yrs he worked at Sears, where he made some very close friends, or you knew him as a young man growing up in Nanaimo where he had lived since 1955. In 1978 he married a young “Brit” named Sue and they settled down for good in Nanaimo. Then along came son Matthew in October 1986. The pride of his life, as anyone who ever heard him talk about his son will be only too aware!
During a 5 year battle with Multiple Myeloma and Amyloidosis it was no surprise how hard he fought back from deaths door more than once and lived his last years as best as any anyone could hope for. The last year was a great one. Gerry was feeling very well and he and his wife Sue, who retired at the end of 2007, travelled and did extensive renovations to the house.
Gerry died suddenly from a massive brain aneurysm that caught us all by surprise. There is no doubt that he will be sorely missed by all he knew but by nobody more than Sue and Matthew.
Gerry’s Celebration of Life will be held at the Nanaimo Yacht Club on Sunday Nov 16th at 4:00pm.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Gerry’s name to the Leukemia/Bone Marrow Transplant program of BC (www.leukemiabmtprogram.com) to further the fight against Multiple Myeloma and Amyloidosis.
