May 6, 1931 - Jan 1, 2018
It is with a heavy heart, we announce the sudden passing of long time Nanaimo resident Gerry Brooks.

He leaves his wife of sixty-four years, Daphne; three children: Donna (Frank), Diana, Dennis (Dianne); eight grandchildren: Dainis, Elysse, Ksenija, Warren, Ryan, Leanne, Katie, and Brian.

His four great grandchildren: Madison, McKenna, Franklin and Milly were the highlights of his long life.

Born May 6th, 1931 in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, he was the youngest of three sons. Raised on the farm, his love of growing things never left him. He served in the Navy as a peacekeeper, learning his trade as an electrician, upon discharge he started his own electrical business in Victoria.

In 1969, he moved the family and business to Nanaimo. He spent his time coaching his son's baseball team, mentoring apprentices, leading a prostate support group and lending his voice with his neighbors not to have his street name changed. His big smile, jokes, and old stories made people laugh and made their day.

His greatest achievement was the pride he had in all his children whom he loved immensely. Gerry instilled in his children that hard work and keeping your nose to the grindstone always paid off. He loved the sunshine and he and his wife enjoyed many vacations in Maui, and in later years catching the rays on their back patio.

At his request there will be no service. Donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

The family would like to thank the first responders, emergency personnel, and the staff and doctors at Nanaimo General Hospital for their compassion and care during the final hours of our Dad's life.
