Preston, George William - age 88, Nanaimo, B.C., passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 18, 2020 in Nanaimo Regional General Hospital.
George was born in B.C., and in 1949 at the young age of 18, he joined the Royal Canadian Air Force. He proudly served his country and was discharged in 1962 after his duties brought him to Africa, France, Germany and England. Post military service, he worked in sales before joining Loomis Armoured Car after which he retired in 1995, but not before marrying the love of his life Venice.
George and Venice Preston were married in Vancouver, in 1990, and later moved to their forever home in Nanaimo, on beautiful Vancouver Island.
George remained very active in the community and was a member of, or volunteered with 808 Wing Airforce Club, 205 Air Cadet Squadron, Royal Canadian Legion Branch 10, The Nanaimo Military Museum, Clay Tree Society, the R.C.M.P Community Policing Program, and Nanaimo and District Crime Stoppers.
Due to these unprecedented times, there will be no memorial service; however, in time there will be an announcement when it's safe for all his remaining loving family and friends to attend. He will be cremated under the direction of First Memorial Funeral Services, Nanaimo.
His urn will remain with Venice until an appropriate time, where he will revisit and rest near a favourite place of his at Cedar by the Sea.
Venice asks that when you think of George, you do so with a smile. After all, he'd smile and wink back at you, wouldn't he!? You may sign the online guestbook, or leave a message for the family by visiting www.firstmemorialnanaimo.com.
