Gary passed away peacefully after a long battle with cancer that he never conceded. He leaves behind his wife of 36 years, Julie; beloved daughters, Martha (TJ) and Hanna; sister, Darcy (Larry) Epp; and nieces and nephews. Gary worked for many years in maintenance at Rutherford Mall before his health forced him to retire. He enjoyed spending time with his family, playing snooker with friends, watching hockey and golf, going to movies, and taking daily walks around his Lantzville neighbourhood with his faithful dog, Nika. He will be remembered by those who knew him for his contagious smile and positive outlook. His family wishes to thank the doctors, nurses, workers, and volunteers at the Palliative Care Unit of NRGH for their care, making Gary’s last days free from pain and worry. They are truly angels on this earth. Private family gathering will be held. In lieu of flowers, consider making a donation to the NRGH Palliative Care Unit through the Nanaimo & District Hospital Foundation or to the Nanaimo Community Hospice Society.
