October 4, 1944 – August 5, 2019
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dad, Gary Iverson, on August 5th after a lengthy battle with cancer. He passed peacefully with his daughters and Lynne by his side. He is pre-deceased by his father, Lloyd Iverson, and his partner of 15 years, Donna Gladesdahl. He is survived by his mother, Olive, brother Eldon (Janice) and sister Marie (Dieter), children Edward (Ewelina), Adrienne (Mike), Corey (Brandon), and Heather (Jesse), and grandchildren Samuel, Gabriel, Beau, Jolene, Oliver, and Kashton.
Gary was born in Virden, Manitoba, and raised on a farm in Oak Lake.
Gary was never afraid to try something new! He joined the RCMP and served for nine years in Drumheller and Ottawa. Next Gary started his construction career building homes in Cranbrook with his dad Lloyd, and he later owned a construction company in Port Hardy building homes, apartments, and townhome complexes. This work even took him to the remote town of Kitsault, where he also owned a dry goods store and liquor agency. From there he worked in an open pit coal mine in Tumbler Ridge. Next Gary sold real estate in Nanaimo for a few years and then worked as a long-haul and logging truck driver until his retirement.
Gary enjoyed fishing, Sunday morning “church” with family members, his old cars, and watching his girls play soccer. Gary also enjoyed meeting up with friends for a beer, wearing his cowboy hat, and telling bad jokes! The grandkids always enjoyed a cookie from Grandpa. In his retirement, Gary enjoyed travelling in his motor home with his main squeeze, Lynne Abbott, snow-birding to the warmer climates of California and Arizona.
Gary’s positive attitude helped him throughout his lengthy illness. His family would like to acknowledge the supportive care that Gary received at NRGH palliative care unit.
A celebration of Gary’s life will be held on Saturday, September 14th at 1 pm at his brother Eldon’s.
