Fred was born in Medicine Hat, Alberta. He was predeceased by his wife Frances, father Niels, mother Peggy and sister Theresa.
He will be sadly missed by his step dad Ray Eklar, sister Judy Marsh, longtime partner of 17 years, Gladys Schott, children Mike Schott (Karla), Jackie Schott, grandchildren Ashlyn and Lainey aka Trouble (suitably named by grandpa Fred), sister in law Judy Gallant and brother in law James Buchan.
Fred loved being a grandpa and was very proud of his family. He was a lineman for 50 years, 35 of which were with B.C. Hydro. B.C. Hydro paid tribute to Fred by driving their trucks in a drive-by. It was an excellent tribute to a wonderful man. He died two weeks later. Fred never quit anything in his life but finally succumbed to the cancer that he courageously fought for many years.
