Fred “Grumpy” Merriman, born in Victoria, BC; passed away suddenly in Ladysmith. A devoted and loyal family man and friend, Grumpy was loved by all who knew him. He is survived by his caring wife of 54 years, Lorna; by brother Alec Merriman and sister Joy Obee. He will be missed by his children, Leonard (Karen K.), Linda (Paul), Bill (Cheryl) and Lori (Mike), and by his grandsons, Dave, James, Mike Tyler, Cody and Chris and “Grumpy’s boy Jessica” plus numerous nieces and nephews.
Fred had a broad range of interests including sports, especially soccer and fishing, training pigeons, reading and above all supporting his children and grandchildren in everything they did. A lifelong learner and educator, Fred took satisfaction and pride in being able to pass his love of life and his wide-ranging interests on to his children and grandchildren.
A Celebration of Fred’s Life will be held at Transfer Beach Amphitheatre in Ladysmith on Friday, August 7th from 2-5 pm. A bar-b-que will be held at 2:00 pm, ceremony at 4:00 pm and a Reception at Aggie Hall on 1st Ave., Ladysmith at 6:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, a donation to your local Youth Soccer Association would be appreciated.
