Fred Cormons

January 17, 1919 ~ August 26, 2010

Passed away suddenly on August 26, 2010 due to an unfortunate vehicle accident. He was born on January 17, 1919 in Nanaimo, BC, the youngest son of Angelo and Ida Cormons. His oldest sister Mabel Masi and older brother Gus Cormons predeceased him.

Fred grew up in the old south end mining district of Nanaimo. He starred in both basketball and lacrosse at the local level during the mid to late 30’s. He served in the air force during WW2 rising to the rank of sergeant. After the war, he was a salesman for Grey Brothers before entering the Hotel business and was once a partner in the Commercial Hotel in Nanaimo. Later, he became a realtor and worked for Block Brothers. In retirement, he lived in the Cameron Island residences.

Fred was an honorary member of the Cavallotti Lodge and belonged to Br. #10, Royal Canadian Legion. As a hobby, he enjoyed being a ham radio operator.

Fred was a bachelor and is survived by his older sister Rena Dorricott in Nanaimo; nephews: Reni Masi in Surrey, Allan Cormons, Terry Cormons and nieces: Judy Rougeau and Linda Dorricott in Nanaimo; many grand nieces and grand nephews and great grand nieces also survive him.
