FRANK EDWARD GARNISH

JULY 25, 1941 TO DECEMBER 20, 2016

Frank passed on quietly at his home after battling a number of serious issues over the past few years. He never complained, and he continued to be involved in his community right up until his passing.

Frank is survived by his sons Theron, and Byron (Tanya), his sister Gail, nephew Aaron, and grandchildren Shayla, Sierra, Sophia, Veronica, and Molly. He was predeceased by his son Brendon (aka Bon) and his parents, Phil and Muriel Garnish.

He started his career as a teacher at South Wellington Elementary School before moving to Cedar Elementary, where he taught for many years before taking on a new challenge at Five Acres Alternative School prior to his retirement.

Many people will remember Frank from his years of running T-ball and softball leagues. His special love was his basketball team, the Comets, which he founded and coached for the past 50 years. Both his softball and basketball teams won many regional and provincial championships over the years.

Frank served a term as Regional Director for Area A (Cedar, South Wellington, Cassidy); sat on the Board of Vancouver Island Regional Library; and after retirement was president of Cedar Community Schools and Enhancement Society, and School Board trustee.

Frank loved the outdoors: fishing, hunting, camping and hiking. His Grade 7 students will remember hiking to Cape Scott, and some of the antics these camping adventures provided. There was never a dull moment when Frank was involved.

He will be dearly missed by his family, friends and community. A memorial service will be held at a place and date to be announced.
