ARMISHAW Francis Edward

August 10, 1923 ~ january 4, 2009

It is with sad hearts that we announce the passing of Francis Edward Armishaw (Frank) at Dufferin Place, Nanaimo, B.C. on January 4, 2009, while surrounded by his family. Frank was born and raised on the family farm in Cedar, B.C.

His wife, Ann Mary, and son, Brian Edward, predeceased him in 1981 and 1989 respectively. He is survived by his daughters, Beverley Whitta (Brian), Dorrie Roberts (Wayne), Jo-Ann Dugan (Alex), grandchildren Deborah Turney (Trevor), Jason Whitta (Stacy), Kelly-Ann Gourlay (Ken), Kevin Roberts, David Dugan (Carrie-Anne), Deanna Dugan (Gord) and great grandchildren Raymond, James and Graham Turney, Megan and Mackenzie Macrae, Kesler Gourlay, and Owen and Ethan Dugan.

Frank was a decorated veteran of WW2. He served as a stoker aboard the HMCS Ottawa. Electrician by trade, he worked in the construction industry in Nanaimo, Crofton Pulp Mill, Department of National Defence and as maintenance supervisor for the federal buildings on Vancouver Island. Frank’s passion was his farm in Harewood. Everyone loved seeing the cows roam the fields, the brilliant display of flowers, and the bounty of vegetables that he shared with his many friends and family. He was the font of worldly fix-it knowledge and many a time there was some sort of farm equipment piece being fixed at the kitchen table.

A celebration of Frank’s life will be held Saturday, January 17, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. at Sands Funeral Chapel, 1 Newcastle Avenue, Nanaimo, B.C. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Charity of your choice.

Thank you to Dufferin Place and its many caregivers for the wonderful care dad received.

Dear Dad, may all your days now be “Fair to Middlin.”
