February 13, 1925 - May 21, 2019
Frances (Fran) Winnifred Daniel, age 94, passed away peacefully on May 21, 2019 at her home in Nanaimo with her family by her side. Fran was predeceased by her mother Rosa Johnston (nee Crippa), her father Frank Johnston, her husband Dennis Daniel, and her son-in-law Graham Williamson.
She is survived by her children Chris (Cathy) Daniel, Jill (Graham) Williamson, Clive (Jennifer) Daniel, and Kevin (Eileen) Daniel, and her grandchildren Denise Williamson, Carmen Williamson, Bryce Williamson, Caitlyn Macfarlane, Caleb Daniel, Matthew Daniel, Rosa Daniel, and her step grandchildren Jessica Cullum and Ethan Henthorn.
Fran, who was born in Mellowdale, Alberta on February 13, 1925, was a respected teacher, as well as a dedicated, selfless mother who carried out her career while raising her four children mostly on her own.
Fran was loved and respected by her children and grandchildren and many friends because of her genuine love and kindness, and because of the example she set everyday of her life on how to treat others. She had a great sense of humour. She loved telling a good joke.
She also had an artistic flair, and produced many great pieces of ceramic art paintings which her children will be able to continue to enjoy.
Fran always had great empathy for the less fortunate in life, and spent a lot of her early retired life volunteering in organizations that helped others.
Fran, who was always positive and had a wonderful smile, lived her life by the proverb "There but for the grace of God go I".
We would like to thank Mom's caregivers for their wonderful care and compassion over the past few years. Without them, it would not have been possible for Mom to live out her retirement years at home as she had wished.
We would like to also thank the Island Health palliative team who made it possible for Mom to be able to pass away at home in peace and with dignity.
As well, we would like to thank Pastor Kelli Sexton who was a great help in the planning and preparation of Mom's memorial service and interment. In lieu of flowers, we would ask that you consider making a donation to the Nanaimo Christ Community Church.
Fran's funeral service will be held at 1 pm on Saturday, June 8, 2019 at Sands Funeral Chapel, 1 Newcastle Avenue, Nanaimo followed by the interment at 3 pm at Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens, and a reception at 3:30 pm at the Cedar Hall.
