June 28, 1940 – July 18, 2021
With broken hearts yet relief she is free from pain, the family of Gail announce her passing on July 18th, 2021 (in her home) at the age of 81.
Gail is survived by her loving and devoted husband of almost 60 years, Art; her son Greg (Ilona), and daughter Kim; grandsons Jeff (Chelsea, and wee sweet great granddaughters Olivia and Mia), Brandon (Emily), Ryan, and Cameron; and brothers Doug (Pat) and Bill, as well as extended family and friends.
She is predeceased by her parents Olive and Jack Ward, brother Jack Jr., and son-in-law Herb.
Gail was born in Port Alice, BC and resided there until her family relocated to Vancouver in 1951. She met Art in 1959 and they were married on September 2nd, 1961. Choosing to leave the big city life, they moved to Nanoose in 1967, then to Nanaimo in 1969 where they built their dream home in 1971 and have resided there ever since.
Art and Gail enjoyed a wonderful life together camping, fishing, and travelling. They made many trips south of the border in their truck and camper. She enjoyed her crafts, visiting with friends, and was a master chef and baker – family gatherings were something she, as well as we, always looked forward to. Our family Matriarch was gracious, thoughtful and loving, and will be missed more than words can express.
The family would like to thank Dr. K. Park, Dr. C. Moonsamy, the Palliative Care team and Canadian Red Cross that enabled her to stay in the comforts of her home.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Lung Association or Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated.
