October 22, 1931 - January 11, 2020
Dad was born in Drumheller, AB to Edwin and Mary Martin, and with us by his side, he passed away peacefully in Salmon Arm, BC. As a young man, Dad moved to Cedar, BC with his family, where he met Sylvia, the love of his life. Together they raised us, as well as cared for numerous foster children while working the farm. Dad was a hard worker from his early days and throughout his whole life, becoming a jack of all trades and a master of most. At his many varied jobs he was committed to getting the job done right and always doing the right thing. He was a creative and crafty man. In his retirement years he found the time to create beautiful pieces of art, both weaving and counted cross stitch.
Dad will always remain to us the most honourable, humble man, who taught us and others important life lessons. He constantly led by example, engraining in us strong principles and the invaluable practices of patience, commitment and kindness, always lending a hand to others. He was a teaser, who brought light to our lives in so many ways. We will miss the thoughtful conversations and laughter we shared, taking in the depth of his teachings and the warm sense of calm his presence brought to a room. He was a good man, an exemplary father and an exceptional husband. As his loving wife Sylvia said after his passing, 'he was the best husband I could have asked for; really the best. I could not have asked for more.'
Dad leaves behind our mom and his wife of 65 years, Sylvia; his brother, Albert (Irene); sisters Vivian Savrtka and Twyla Langille (Barry); son, Mike (Shirley); daughters, Marianne Titley, Karen Martin and Nicki Gabriel; 12 grandchildren,16 great grandchildren and numerous nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by his brother Gilbert, sister Charlene Griesdale, son Glen, and son-in-law John Titley.
As requested by Dad, there will be no service.
In lieu of flowers, please 'Pay it Forward' by carrying out a random act of kindness. As well, take five minutes to enjoy your favourite memory of our loving Dad.
