October 8, 2006

WHARTON, Evelyn

It is with sadness that we tell you that Evelyn Wharton (Wilson) passed away peacefully, in the loving care of her granddaughter Vicki, at her home in Kiwanis Lodge for Seniors on October 8, 2006.

Evelyn was born a Native Daughter of Nanaimo on April 11, 1910. She was predeceased by her loving husband Charles and her sister Mary Ellen (Mackenzie) and brothers Fred, Jim and Jack.

Evelyn leaves to mourn her passing her son Leigh, her daughter-in-law Margaret, granddaughter Victoria Fischer (Robert), her great granddaughter Jennifer Fischer and numerous nephews and nieces.

Evelyn enjoyed working in her lovely home and garden that she and Char had created together over 50 years. She enjoyed long walks with best friend Peggy and outings with Lorraine, Ethel and other friends. Evelyn was a very talented knitter and supported many church and Star bazaars with donations of lovely baby outfits. Above all, Evelyn was happiest when surrounded by her loving family. Evelyn was honoured by her City of Nanaimo in 1992 for her 50 years of volunteer work preparing cancer dressings to be given at no cost to patients.

Evelyn was a Life Member, Past Worthy Matron and Past Grand Ruth of the Order of the Eastern Star. She enjoyed many years of fellowship with The Girls sewing circle of which she was one of the three remaining members. Evelyn will be dearly missed by her loving and devoted family who wish to extend their sincere thanks to Dr. Charles Lam and to the Staff at Kiwanis Lodge for their dedicated and loving care.

There will be no flowers or funeral service by Evelyn’s request. Donations may be made to the O.E.S. Cancer Dressing Programme, c/o 53 Ciliare Drive, Nanaimo, B.C. V9S 3C9.
