It is with unbelievable sadness that we announce the passing of Evelyn Margaret Carley Boyes, of Nanaimo, BC on July 9th, 2017 at age 76 years. Evelyn was born in North Vancouver in December 1940 and married, Janos (John) Lakatos, in March 1967 in Smithers, BC. They celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary this year. Evelyn graduated nursing from St. Paul’s Hospital in Vancouver in 1964. She took her first job at Surrey Memorial before taking her post graduate in Washington, DC for paediatric nursing prior to moving to Smithers, BC. She then moved to St. Albert, AB and worked at Dickinsfield Extended Healthcare Facility in Edmonton along with many others (Charles Camsell, Rosecrest, Glenrose, Misericordia, Royal Alexandra Hospital and the Drumheller Institution). She later moved to Nanaimo, BC and finished her career at the Nanaimo’s Traveller’s Lodge and Eagle Park Health Care Facility in Qualicum Beach, BC, retiring in 1997.

She was ultimately known for her selfless compassion, kindness, witty sense of humour, sarcasm, and care. She was an inspiration and a pillar of strength, love, and forgiveness. She loved making quilts, knitting sweaters, playing bridge and watching her favourite shows and movies.

Evelyn was surrounded by family in the NRGH Palliative Care Unit with her sense of humour, compassion, and love. We were given such a gift in her final days. No words were left unspoken.

Evelyn is survived by her husband, John Boyes; son James (Sandra), daughter Joan (Stan); grandchildren Danisa (Brandon), Jason, Samantha, & Shaelyn; great grandson Elijah; sister Vici-Rae (Charles); nephew Stephen (Glynnis, Ryland & Justin); niece Leslie (Zachary & Brooke); nephew Doug (Maureen, Michelle, Clayton, Katie, Jacob, Nikki, Lee, Chloe, & Olivia); sister-in-law Evelyn (Grant, Debbie, Aaron, & Kari-Lynn) and cousin Dixie (Richard, Christopher, Johnathon, & Patricia). Evelyn is predeceased by her brothers, Roderick & Roland Boyes.

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Dr. Robin Love, the NRGH Palliative Care Unit, and the Hospice Volunteers for their amazing support in her final days and under her directive. We cannot thank you enough for helping her transition with dignity.

No Service will be held nor flowers, at Evelyn’s request. In Lieu of Flowers or Donations, please share with those you love and make amends.
