HAZELL, EVELYN

(need Hackwood)

May 14, 1922 - February 27, 2011

It is with great sadness that we announce that Evelyn passed away peacefully at Victoria General Hospital. She was predeceased by her husband, Vic (Red) in 1978. She leaves her daughter, Gail (Steve) Bishop, Sooke BC; grandsons: Lorin (Jenny) Powell and great grandson, Noah, Nanaimo BC; Dave (Tammy) Powell and great grandson, Tyler, Sooke BC.

Evelyn was born and raised in Nanaimo and moved to Victoria with her husband in 1942. She bravely battled schizophrenia for many years. She was a very caring person with a great sense of humour. She was always taking someone who she felt needed an extra hug under her wing. She had a love of gardening that she inherited from her parents, Bevis and Annie Hackwood, and in turn has passed it on to her daughter and grandsons. She loved animals and spent many happy times watching the deer, squirrels and birds from Gail and Steve’s porch in Sooke.

The family is very grateful for the wonderful, caring staff at Shelmaire Resthome. You were like a second family to her. She will be greatly missed by family and friends. A family celebration will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
