Eugene (Gene) Philip Miles

August 10, 1930 – July 20, 2009

With his family at his side Gene passed away peacefully after a short battle with leukemia. He was predeceased by his parents Veda Tyndall (Lowe) and David Miles, and his wife of 53 years, Grace Adelaide (Thomas). He is survived by his brother Brian (Shelley); daughter, Colleen Pudsey (Chuck); sons: Dave (Roanne), Ken (Kathy), Rick (Susan); partner Dianne Ross; 11 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.

Born in Ladysmith and raised on Vancouver Island, Gene worked a short time in the logging industry and served in the Canadian Air Force from 1951-1986. He served at several bases in Canada as well as Germany and the U.S. Other Air Force career highlights were the opportunity to travel to Turkey and New Zealand and his involvement in the deployment of the Aurora (RCAF) aircraft from Los Angeles to Comox. Gene has spent the last 16 years at Surfside RV Resort in Parksville and wintering in Yuma.

Gene’s passions were fastball, slow pitch, golf and dancing. Playing centre field he participated in numerous ball tournaments at the international, provincial and local levels. A special moment for Gene was the opportunity to carry the torch during the 1986 Winter Olympic Torch Run.

Gene was loved and respected by all who knew him. He will be sorely missed by his family and friends.
