Ethel “Eleanor” Kehler, nee LaRose passed away peacefully on the morning of September 18, 2018 at NRGH. She was 86 years old.
Eleanor was the beloved wife of Abram “Abe” Kehler who will forever mourn her loss. They celebrated 65 wonderful years of marriage in July. She will also be greatly missed by her children: Allan (Arlene) Kehler, Terry (Ron) Hartley, Diana (Bill) Southey and Gregory Kehler (Kathleen), her grandchildren: Melissa, Philip (Solange), Stuart, Pamela (Jay), Corey (Liz), Elysia, Jamie (Rachelle),
Jolene, and Edward, and three great grandchildren. In addition, she will be mourned by her sister Patricia Brindley (Les), her brother Ramie (Angie) LaRose, her life long friend Ethel Perdue, and her many nieces and nephews.
Born in North Battleford on November 28, 1931, Eleanor grew up in Lethbridge and after marrying there, she and her husband Abe moved to Calgary. Soon afterwards, the couple relocated to Nanaimo to raise a family and remained residents for over 60 years. After retiring from federal government service (Pacific Biological Station, Customs & Excise), Eleanor opened a gift store and volunteered at the hospital. She had many great friends and enjoyed hobbies such as card playing, reading, golfing, investing in the stock market and travelling.
Eleanor regularly expressed pride in her children and grandchildren as well as gratitude for having had such a long and loving relationship with her husband Abe.
At her request, the family will celebrate her life in private. Flowers are gratefully declined.
