It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Esther McKinnell on September 20, 2016. Esther leaves behind her husband of 65 years, Lorne; her sister Arlene Robinson of Campbell River; and her five children, Gary (Kathy), Laurie Hall (Patrick), Colleen (Bassim Saade), Kathleen (Richard Jones), and Anne (Ray Burr); as well as many grandchildren, great grandchildren and dear friends. Esther was born August 7, 1933 in Comox, BC, and raised her family in Nanaimo. As well as being a devoted wife and mother, Esther loved to garden, sew and do needlepoint. Later, she became a very accomplished knitter and created beautiful sweaters for her family. Esther kept the home res burning during the years Lorne was commercial fishing, and we called her our compass rose. Many thanks to all the wonderful doctors, nurses and care staff at Kiwanis Lodge, and the ALS Society for everything they did to support Esther and our family. By request, there will be no service.
