Esther Dishkin

Nov. 15, 1925 ~ Jan. 24, 2017

On January 24th 2017 Esther Dishkin at the age of 91 passed away peacefully with family by her side at her home in Woodgrove Trillium Manor Nanaimo, BC.

She was predeceased by her devoted husband Arthur in 2008, and her son Brian in 2010. She is survived by her daughter Irene Simpson (Roy Mathews), son Norman Dishkin (Pamela), daughter Valerie Halliday (Erik), daughter Heather Wilson (Bill) and daughter-in law Dora Dishkin. 10 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren, as well as a number of relatives in Scotland and England.

Esther and Arthur married in Scotland in 1943 and immigrated to Canada in 1957 where they settled in Nanaimo. She worked at NRGH for a number of years and retired early to spend time with her family. Esther and Art loved family. There were many trips to the UK to visit family and many family came to stay with Esther and Art to visit Canada. They would travel to Fort St. John, Penticton and then Creston and Victoria to visit their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren frequently.

Esther was a talented knitter, crocheter and seamstress. She has made crocheted dolls, stuffed animals, clothes, sweaters, toques, and baby outfits. Most of which were for her family. Esther also liked gardening, camping, dancing, flea markets and collecting dolls. Esther was also an active member of the Branch #10 Royal Canadian Legion where her and Art enjoyed many dances and meat draws.

Esther’s children would like to thank to the staff at Woodgrove Trillium Manor for the great care and attention they gave to their Mom.

Esther will be missed by many...

A celebration of life will he held on February 18 2017 from 1pm-3pm at Bowen Park Complex 500 Bowen Rd. Upper level parking lot Room #1.

Flowers gratefully declined but donations to charity of your choice in Esther’s name graciously accepted.
