Gourley, Ernest Redver

We announce the peaceful passing of Ernie in his 77th year the early morning of February 14, 2010.

He is predeceased by his parents, his sister, Shirley Saunders and his grandson, Daniel Gourley. He is survived by his four children, Colleen, Verena, Cheryl and Sean Gourley, and their partners as well as 8 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, step-grandchildren and close friends Elvis and Pete and others.

In life, Ernie believed in the union movement and was a member of the IBEW Local 213. He worked various jobs from the age of 12 and moved on to work for GE Technical Apparatus Department then retired after 29 years. He enjoyed horse racing, to tinker with machines and tools, auctions and good laughs with family and friends. Politics pissed him off, but he was a lifelong supporter of the NDP Party.

He had the uncanny ability to make you laugh with his colorful view on things and his sense of humor. Ernie was an honest, independent, hardworking man with many inner strengths who raised 4 children on his own and instilled many of these qualities in his children.

He will be incredibly missed for all his antics and views. He truly loved his family and valued his friends.

There will be no service at the prior request of Ernie but a Celebration of Life will take place at a later date and be announced in this paper.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Nanaimo Regional Hospital or the Heart & Stroke Foundation on his behalf.

They give their grateful thanks to the emergency room staff as well as the doctors and the many wonderful nurses who cared for him on Unit 6.

He will be greatly missed and forever loved.
