 August 4, 1924 - August 2, 2015

"Lord Jesus we thank you for blessing our family with such a wonderful Mother!"

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our much beloved Mother, Mother in law, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, Aunt, neighbour & friend. She is predeceased by her husband Art in 1986. Missing Mom are her children: Skip (Sue), Brian (Esti), Brenda (Al), Barry (Linda), Pat (Mike), Gayle (Doug), Dale (Rhonda), Cindy (Troy), 23 Grandchildren, 16 Great Grandchildren and Tucker, her four legged child.

Mom was a farm girl born in Cando, North Dakota along with her twin sister Ella. Their exploits were legendary, confusing teachers and boyfriends alike. She homesteaded with her family in Saskatchewan and eventually worked her way west before settling in Nanaimo.  Mom had a strong work ethic and met every challenge with determination, humor and faith. She was an excellent cook, professionally at the Nanaimo Travellers Lodge and for her family which gave her the most joy. She was famous for her roast beef dinners with Yorkshire pudding, cabbage rolls, apple pies and biscuits just to name a few. Mom loved to garden and was proud of her four o ‘clocks and tiger lilies. She produced an amazing number of knitted dolls and slippers for family and friends. She loved people, animals, music, dancing, a good laugh, crib, cards, Judge Judy and Bad Boys, doing for others, volunteering (the Nanaimo Boxing Club and the NDP),  living in Deerwood, her annual birthday celebration at Rathtrevor Beach and her children most of all. Mom gave so much and asked for so little. She was one of a kind and had a unique saying for every occasion, her favorite being "Up Your Feathers!” Mom was not shy and was never stuck for something to say. Her immense love, support and compassion were unconditional. You could always count on Mom!

Our sincere thanks to Mom's wonderful neighbours and friends in Deerwood, the great people from home support, Karen her housekeeper, the staff at NRGH, especially the 4th & 5th floor and anyone else who was part of Erma's world.

A memorial service will be held Saturday September 12th at 1:00 at the Bethel Pentecostal Tabernacle Church in Ladysmith, located at 1149 - 4th Ave.
