November 18, 1943 - November 16, 2021
In loving memory ~
We are sad to announce the passing of Dorothy on November 16, 2021.
She is predeceased by her parents, Dorothy and Albert Torkko and dear cousin Bernice (Jack) Ruckledge. Dorothy is survived by her loving husband of fifty three years, Bob, nephew Ken (Yvonne) Rafter, cousin Jane (Roy) McKay, and their extended families. She is also survived by many close friends who will miss her dearly.
Dorothy was born in Nanaimo November 18,1943 and raised in Chase River. Dorothy had a fulfilling teaching career beginning in Nanaimo at Rock City School. She and Bob then moved to the Cowichan Valley where she taught in Caycuse. They returned to Nanaimo and Dorothy finished teaching at Dufferin Crescent School, retiring in 2001. In her retirement, Dorothy and Bob travelled extensively, and spent a lot of time welcoming friends and relatives, hosting dinner parties and celebrations. Dorothy loved gardening, royalty, playing bridge, taking photos, and everything purple. She and Bob also loved attending concerts in Chemainus, and at the Port Theatre. Dorothy adopted many unofficial relatives and she was known as Aunty Dorothy by a host of many close friends.
We would like to thank the doctors and nurses in the palliative care unit at N.R.G.H. At Dorothy's request there will no formal service. Family and friends will join together to celebrate Dorothy's life at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
