Elvi Annikki Kattilakoski

October 4, 1933 – December 23, 2016

It is with sad hearts that we said goodbye to our Aiti, mom, mummu, grandma K, Elvi Annikki Kattilakoski (nee Lyly). Aiti was born in Finland and had 6 siblings. She immigrated to Canada in 1970 with her family and put down roots on Vancouver Island, where she lived in Campbell River, Cedar and Nanaimo.

Aiti loved gardening and worked very hard with Bert, her second husband, on “Bert’s Berry Farm” in Cedar. During the summer, we could always find her in the berry bushes picking baskets of raspberries or blue - berries for sale the next day, while Bert was getting fire wood for sale or chatting with customers.

Aiti had many friends in the Finnish Community and loved to look after the “Finnish Ladies” as she sometimes called her friends when she visited them or picked them up when they needed a ride. She was a great cook and her rice pudding with berry sauce was the favourite of everyone in the family.

Aiti was predeceased by two husbands (Auno and Bert) and 2 sisters (Eini and Raija) .

Elvi was survived by her children Kaija (Ken); Juha (Brenda); Pekka (Elaine); Paivi (Wayne); Kai (Amy); grandchildren Sara, Matt, Sam, Justine and Robert; great-grandchildren Abby, Tyrus and Thomas; Aiti will be greatly missed by all of her family and friends. A small private gathering of family and closest friends was held celebrating her memory.
