Elizabeth Theresa Bradley passed away in Nanaimo on January 8th 2020 at the age of 93. A much loved wife, mother and grandmother she lived most of her life in Nanaimo, after emigrating from Hungary with her parents in 1932.
Mom was a force of nature, exhibiting great flair in everything she did. A career woman from the age of 16, she was assistant to Mayor Victor Harrison during his second term, worked for the War Time Prices and Trade Board during the war years, and at B.C. Telephone in the late 40’s and early 50’s. She enjoyed many happy years with the Transit Division of the Regional District of Nanaimo until her retirement.
At a picnic on Newcastle Island in the mid forties, mom met the love of her life, John Bradley, and she and dad were married in June of 1947. They complimented each other in every way and theirs was a truly happy marriage full of love, respect and mutual admiration.
Mom and dad were founding members of the Hungarian Benevolent Society which aided refugees arriving in Nanaimo after the Revolution of 1956, and the special friendships made with their fellow Hungarians endure to this day.
Mom was an exemplary cook, indefatigable hostess, gardener, animal lover, and confidante and advisor to a wide circle of friends and extended family. She generously volunteered her time to the Catholic Women’s League and as a lifelong member of St. Peter’s parish. Throughout her life she managed many roles with grace and efficiency and was the ultimate multi-tasker. Her love, generosity and passion for life will be remembered and greatly missed by all who knew her.
She was pre-deceased by husband John Bradley in 1994 and son John Jr. in 2019. Survived by daughter Teri Hamer (Rick Stanley), daughter-in-law Rhonda Bradley and granddaughter Jennaveve Bradley.
