Our beloved Mother and Nana, Elizabeth Mowbray, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family at Avenir Memory Care Nanaimo.
Predeceased by her treasured husband James (1982) and grandson Ben (2013), Liz is survived by her children, Robert (Colleen), Susan (Jim), Will (Penney) daughters-in-law Barbara and Carol, grandchildren Brian, Chrissy, Ali (Dave), Dana (Richard) Matthew and Corey (Kelsey) and great grandchildren Everest and Rylie
Liz is also survived by her sister Suzanne and niece Frances in Victoria, her two dear friends Tatjana and Arvon, as well as family in England and California.
In 1952, at the age of nineteen, Mum embarked on the journey of her life emigrating to Canada to join her sister in Lake Cowichan. She then moved to Victoria where she met the love of her life, her Jimmy. Liz and Jim were married in 1955. Their three children were born in Victoria and the family moved to Nanaimo in 1974, where Mum worked for many years at Falconer Book Store in Harbour Park and Country Club malls.
Mum's greatest pleasure was her family. She especially savoured time spent with her grandchildren and loved Christmas. Another great passion was the theatre. Mum belonged to the Victoria Operatic Society and was a life member of Nanaimo Theatre Group. She was an award winning costume designer and maker and in the dressing room her word was the law. Mum also spent many enjoyable years of volunteer work with the Harbour City Seniors at Bowen Park. In her recent years, Mum became a legendary story-teller.
The family would like to thank, from the depths of their hearts, the staff at Avenir Memory Care Nanaimo for the outstanding care, friendship and compassion shown towards our Mum.
