LAVERY, Elizabeth Beatrice
Beth Lavery nee Patterson beloved wife of T. Mavir Lavery who predeceased her in May 2000 died peacefully August 20, 2005. Also predeceased by her parents Anne & Wesley Patterson and her elder brother Wesley Patterson. Beth is survived by her sister Margaret Patterson and four children. Joanne (Bill Cooke) of Sidney BC, Hugh (Jeanette) of Port Coquitlam BC, Lynne (Fred Ryan) of Shawville Quebec and Terry (Michele) of Roberts Creek BC. Also surviving are eight grandchildren; Grant (Laurie Lee) Cooke, Leah (Darrell) Brookbank, Beth Gerow, Alison Gerow (Leo Lilla), Matthew Lavery, Dan Lavery, Kieran Lavery, Jaden Lavery and three great grandchildren; Kolten & Kallie Brookbank and Carmelina Gerow Lilla. Beth was born June 7, 1921 in Gilbert Plains Manitoba and moved to Victoria BC in 1944 with her family after graduating from Manitoba University with a Bachelor of Arts degree. In 1945 she and Mavir were married and made their home in Nanaimo BC where they lived for over 55 years and raised their family. Beth taught primary school grades in Nanaimo District for a number of years during the 1960’s and 70’s. In 2002 she moved to Sidney BC and resided at Sidney Care Home for the past 1 year. Beth was a very active member of Brechin United Church for over 25 years and prior to that had taught Sunday School and led CGIT groups at the former Haliburton Street United Church in the South end of Nanaimo. Mavir and Beth were both very active members of the Gyro club in Nanaimo for many years. Beth was always a devoted wife and loving and supportive mom, grandma, and great grandma. Her smile and her laugh will be greatly missed. The family would like to thank the staff at Sidney Care Home for the dignified and supportive way they cared for our mother. Thanks also to Dr. James H. Forster for his kind care. A celebration of Beth’s life will be held for family members at a later date in Sidney.
