Elfriede Helen Zeppenfeld

October 8, 1919 - January 7, 2010

Elfriede, beloved wife, friend and aunt, passed away peacefully at Nanaimo Seniors Village on her 61st wedding anniversary. She is survived by her husband, Bernie of Lantzville, and her two nieces, Ingrid Kaplan of London, England, and Bergit Rohrmeyer of Hamburg, Germany.

Elfriede was born in Floha, Germany, and emigrated to Toronto, Canada with her husband Bernie in 1951. They then moved to Prince Rupert, BC where Frieda worked in the engineering department of City Hall. In 1965 they moved to Lantzville and for many years operated their own business, Bernie’s Meats, on the Island Highway at Nanoose Bay. People from all over Vancouver Island dropped in to buy their famous meats and sausages.

Elfriede was a devoted tennis player. She won four senior tennis championships in BC. She also loved offshore sailing, travelling with her husband to Costa Rica, Panama, San Blas Islands, Mexico, The South Pacific and New Zealand.

Elfriede will always be remembered for her kindness, generosity and friendship. She will be missed dearly by her husband, family, friends and neighbours.
