It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Elena Victoria Vollmers on July 15, 2024. She was predeceased by her parents, Victor and Militza Shoshin, her husband, Stan Vollmers, in 2007, and her son, Shayne Vollmers, who tragically died on March 21, 2022. Elena is survived by her son Tony (Jen) and their two children, Gavin and Madeline, as well as two sisters, Svetlana Leask (Peter) and their children, Adam and Andrinna, and Militza White (Robert) and their children, Christopher and Alexei. Born in Shanghai, China, in 1938, Elena emigrated to Canada with her family in 1951. She was a beloved high school French teacher for many years. After marrying, she made her home in Nanaimo, where she continued teaching and raising her family. Elena had a passion for travel and took part in numerous family adventures, including fishing, boating, bathtub racing, skiing, and RV trips to Mexico. She was an exceptional cook and seamstress, designing and making many of her own clothes. Even in her final weeks, fashion and dressing remained a cherished passion.
