Edward (Ed) Anthony Stumborg

June 5, 2025

February 12, 1933 - June 5, 2025

In loving memory ~

Born February 12, 1933, in Carmel, Saskatchewan, Ed was the youngest of five children and grew up in humble beginnings. A clever and determined young man, he became the first of his family to graduate high school, earning his diploma from St Peter's College. He then pursued his passion for problem solving, earning an engineering degree from the University of Saskatchewan.

Upon graduation, Ed moved to Toronto. It was there that he met the love of his life, Noel. Together, they built a beautiful life, raising three children over the course of their 63-year marriage. Ed joined a small engineering firm in Toronto. He excelled at both the technical aspect and the sales side of the business, and eventually worked his way up to the level of president of the company. His success allowed him to retire to Vancouver Island in the early 1990's.

Ed was an active and social man who found joy in golf during the summers and curling in the winters. In Nanaimo, he deepened his faith and dedicated his time to volunteering at his church, a testament to his compassionate spirit. Ed and Noel also were able to travel extensively during their retirement years, both with their friends and their church group and were a constant presence in the lives of their grandkids (Sam, Zachary, and Esme).

On June 5, Ed passed away peacefully with his wife (Noel) and his remaining children (Basil, Jennifer, and her husband Henryk Zarebski) nearby. He was the last of his siblings, predeceased by Roman, Albert, Adeline, and Salome. He was also pre-deceased by his beloved and eldest daughter, Cara.

Despite a long and gentle descent into dementia, Ed retained his sense of humour and desire to joke with everyone around him. His love of a good beer and chat, his phenomenal skill at cards and around a pool table, and his sharp mind will be missed by those he left behind.

Public visitation will be held at Sands Funeral Chapel, Nanaimo Wednesday, June 11 from 7 - 8pm.

The funeral mass will be held at Our Lady of Good Council Church, 11 am, June 12, followed by the burial at Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens at 1pm and a reception at Sands Funeral Chapel 2 - 4pm.
