We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Edgar Mejlholm

A heroic warrior, Ed bravely faced his health challenges with remarkable courage over many years—one of which led to the incredible gift of a new heart and eight additional precious years. He never took life for granted and was deeply committed to honouring his donor by caring for that heart and giving back whenever he could.

He achieved a 30 yr. career as a respected and dedicated realtor, only retiring when life once again took an unexpected turn with the diagnosis of kidney cancer. Though he fought with strength and dignity, it was a battle that could not be won. Predeceased by his loving parents, father-in-law and his sweet nephew, Ed passed away peacefully on May 24, 2025 at the age of 65.

He will be remembered and deeply missed by his beloved wife of over 45 yrs., Valerie; cherished daughter and son, Kristie (Keven) and Kevin; and his treasured grandchildren, Anders, Annika and Owen. He is also survived by brothers, Helge (Mary) and Arne (Kathy); mother-in-law, Loraine; brother-in-law, Randy (Gayle); sister-in-law, Debbie (Steve); numerous nieces and nephews, extended family, close friends and colleagues—the list of those who held Ed near and dear is long, perhaps because he was truly a man with a heart of gold.

Ed was admired and respected for his kindness, humility, honesty, devotion, work ethic and friendliness. He will also be fondly remembered for his loving nature, quick wit, and a laugh as unique as the man himself. Though he enjoyed a successful and public career, Ed lived a simple, private life outside of work—spending time with those closest to him, puttering around in his garage and yard, working on projects, watching Blue Jays games, celebrating holidays, travelling and enjoying the island.

On Ed's behalf, we must also acknowledge and give sincere gratitude to all levels of health care professionals that went above and beyond in providing treatment and life-saving interventions throughout his often turbulent journey. To the guardian angels who stepped in when we so needed them (you know who you are), we are forever thankful to you. And lastly, to the prayer warriors—your support gave us such incredible strength and comfort each and every day.

As we take time to find the best way to honour such an honourable man, we ask ourselves "what would Ed do?". He would humbly suggest that, in lieu of flowers or a large celebration of life, donations be made—anonymously or in his name—to the Heart & Stroke Foundation, BC Cancer Foundation or St. Paul's Hospital Foundation.

A private memorial service and interment will be held at a later date at Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens.
