OPHEIM, DOUGLAS BRUCE (Doug), on October 16, 2002, Doug aged 47 passed away at home in Nanaimo after a courageous battle with asbestos cancer. He is survived by his mother Doreen May (Blackwell), father Orville Opheim, his brothers Ron (Terry) Opheim and Dennis (Carol) Opheim of Nanaimo. Doug will be missed by family members Brodie, Carly, Maigan, Lindsey, Andrea, Dayton and Cory of Nanaimo. Also uncles and aunts Ken (Eva) Opheim of Saskatoon, Dorothy (Lorne) Ames of Victoria, Don (Lois) Blackwell of Red Deer, Ray (Wilma) Blackwell of Nanaimo. Close cousins and their families of Brian Frith of Nanaimo, Bruce (Kim) Frith of Sidney, Terry (Tess) Ames and Donna Ames of Victoria, Tim (Kelly) Blackwell and Terry Ann (Alfredo) Blackwell/Calderon of Calgary, Rob (Melaine) Blackwell, Suzanne (Wayne) Blackwell/McKniff and David Blackwell of Red Deer, Judy, Audrey and David of Saskatoon, Myla Burman of Toronto, Bob (Jan) Buhr of West Virginia, Bill (Connie) Buhr of Prince Rupert, Tommy, Wayne and Gary Virtue of Victoria. His co-workers in Ladysmith and numerous close friends he touched in Nanaimo and throughout the island. A celebration of Doug’s life will take place at Sand’s Chapel, Nanaimo on Oct. 25th at 1:00 pm. Reception to follow at Sands. Interment in the family plot at Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens, Cedar BC in the near future. Special thanks to doctors, nurses and staff at NRGH and home care nurses and caregivers for their excellent services.

His honesty and dedication to family and friends will always be remembered. His hearty laugh will forever be missed. Rest in Peace Doug.
