Our family sadly announces with heavy hearts that Dorothy passed away peacefully at Dufferin Place with her family at her side. She was 93.

Predeceased by her husband Orval in 2007, brothers Bill, Jim and Gerry Rowan and sister Peggy Mullett.

She is lovingly remembered and greatly missed by daughters Debbie (Perry) Elderbroom and Brenda (Dan) Stapleton, and grandchildren Jeremy (Patty) Stapleton, Joanie (Landon) Sheck, Janelle Stapleton, Courtenay (Bob) Lund, Sarah (Colin) Partridge. Great grandchildren Helaina, Sailor, Isla, Cash, Hudson and George. Numerous nieces and nephews.

Dorothy was born into the Rowan and Jolley families of Gabriola Island, who settled there in the early 1900's, she was very proud of her Gabriola heritage. As a young adult she worked at the CPR coffee shop in Nanaimo. Dorothy met Orval Foster through friends who met at a dance in the Gabriola Community Hall and were married on Gabriola in 1959. They moved to Nanaimo where they raised their two daughters. Their family home on Hunter Street was always a warm and welcoming place for family and friends to gather while enjoying Dorothy's wonderful baked goodies.

Dorothy was an avid bowler at Brechin Lanes until her stroke in 2000. She was also a wonderful cook and talented knitter.

Dorothy will always be remembered for her happy contented spirit and winning smile. We wish to thank the kind staff at Kiwanis House and Dufferin Place (Arbutus Unit) for the care they provided mom over the years.

The family will be hosting an open house at a later date in honour of Dorothy. In lieu of flowers a donation can be made to the Heart and Stroke Fund.
