It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of our beloved Mother, Sister, Grandmother, Auntie and devoted friend.
Mom was born in Silver Park, Sask. to Ralph and Thelma Berg. In 1949 she came to Nanaimo and lived out her life here.
Predeceased by her parents, her husband Sonny, her brothers Garland and Dennis, and her step son Larry, she is survived by her daughter Janet (Mark), son Gord (Julie), step daughter Corrine, her brother Harvey (Donna) and numerous grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Mom's greatest joy was her family. She worked tirelessly for them. She started her own catering business, D&B Catering, with Bernice Martin (deceased) and retired in 1993. She opened the restaurant in Nanaimo Golf and Country Club in the early 1960's and left there in the early 70's.
Mom was happiest when she was with her family, her ceramic group, or sewing for her grandchildren. Later in life she was able to travel and enjoyed Maui the most. Watching her grandchildren marry and holding her great grandchildren gave her great joy.
She loved passing on stories of her parents coming to Canada, the struggles of The Great Depression and the hard work her family endured to give the next generation an easier life.
Mom sacrificed a lot for her family and we appreciated her hard work and determination. Her peaceful passing is a blessing to all of us.
The family would like to thank Dr. Dodo for his gentle and genuine care. The staff at Nanaimo Seniors Village, Terry for her hair care as well as Dr. Rumball, nurses Albert and Maryanne in the emergency department at NRGH.
A celebration of life will be held later in the Spring due to Covid. Rest well Mom, you have earned your wings.
