August 23, 1926 - June 13, 2020
It is with profound sadness and heavy heart we announce the passing of our mom, Doris. She passed peacefully in her sleep, as she wanted.
Predeceased by her loving husband, Merv (2010), she leaves to mourn, son Doug of White Rock, BC and daughter Donna Delaney (Don), of Victoria, BC. Grandchildren Leah, Ian (Kerry) and Kevin (Andrea) Stewart, and 6 great-grandchildren, step grandchildren Tony (Karen) Delaney, Tracey Delaney, Tara Delaney, (Chad) and Jason Delaney, 10 step great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandsons. Also three nephews and two nieces.
Doris was born in Calgary, Alberta, August 23, 1926. She moved to Vancouver Island in 1947 to follow her parents here. Mom and Dad were married August 21, 1948 at Grace Lutheran Church in Port Alberni. They moved to Nanaimo in 1966 to follow Dad's work. They attended St. Paul's Lutheran Church for over 40 years. Mom was known as the "Flower Lady" as she did the flowers for over 17 years.
She was a stay-at-home mom until Doug and Donna were older and then went out to work. She worked at two flower shops, lawyers office and a travel agency. After retirement in 1980, Doris volunteered at the Cancer Clinic at Nanaimo Regional Hospital for 25 years.
She loved to garden, travel, golf and read. Her and Dad had some wonderful holidays in Hawaii and Europe, Portugal being their favourite. They also had fun together on the golf course. Dad even got a hole in one.
She will be missed by all her family and friends.
A private family graveside service will be held at a later date at Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens. Her favorite sayings were "Forgive and Forget" and "This to shall pass". Thank you to all the staff and Care unit Staff at Berwick on the Lake for the past 9 years.
Rest in Peace Mom. You will be missed.
